Does PRP Treatment Reverse Hair Loss?

Millions of men and women face some types of hair loss during their lives. An embarrassing problem can negatively affect your self-confidence and your self-esteem and even the quality of your life.

In addition to all drugs, prescriptions, laser therapy, surgical options and non-surgical options, there is now a new hair replacement treatment that shows promising results: platelet-rich plasma therapy. But, does PRP really work for hair loss?

Dr Usman Amiruddin is here to provide his patients with safe, effective surgical and non-surgical treatments for all areas of the body. I am a Certified Plastic Surgeon and medical aesthetics who focus on building the relationship with each patient while helping them to understand the procedure process. I provide all cosmetic, plastic & burn services under one umbrella.

What is platelet-rich plasma therapy?

Although platelet-rich plasma therapy is a relatively new treatment for hair loss, it is already in the medical world for a long time. Doctors have used PRP treatment for coagulation, and to recruit immune cells and even to assist in surgical wound healing.

Skin doctors have used PRP treatments for years to rejuvenate the skin and improve the appearance of facial tissues by promoting the growth of new cells. In this application, platelets are injected into specific areas of the face to get rid of fine lines and wrinkles. Today, this revolutionary treatment is used to restore and stimulate hair growth through the use of patient platelets. This is how PRP works for hair loss

A small amount of blood is removed (approximately the same amount as a regular blood test) and then woven into a central centrifuge to separate platelets and plasma from other blood components. Platelets are unique because they produce more than 300 substances that include all types of growth factors, such as platelet growth factor (PDGF), tumor growth factor (TGF), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), insulin-like growth factor (IGF) And epidermal growth factor (EGF).

These growth factors help not only repair cells, but also stimulate hair growth and reduce baldness in males and females. Once the blood platelets and plasma are separated from the blood, platelet-rich plasma is injected directly into the scalp.

For best results, PRP can be applied directly to the scalp topically and then inserted deeper into the scalp through fine needles or other device.

Typically, patients receive PRP on their scalp by their dermatologist once a month for three consecutive months, then twice a year after maintenance. The side effects are slim (some swelling and redness at the injection site immediately after the procedure) and the results can last for a year or even longer.

Does PRP Work For Hair Loss Really?

Platelet-rich plasma therapy for hair loss is still relatively new, but it is a promising non-surgical option to treat baldness in males and females by stimulating hair follicles to re-grow hair.

A recent study of dermatology conducted by the Department of Dermatology at the NHL Municipal Medical College in India revealed that the treatment of PRP with fine needles is an effective treatment for patients with androgenic alopecia or male and female baldness.

Hair loss affects everyone at some time of age and can be caused by many factors, including family history, age, stress level and nutrition. May be associated with some basic medical conditions. The most common form of hair loss is male or female baldness, which is the area of thinning or thinning in the crown for men and enlargement of the part or hair loss in women generally.

Although PRP treatment can greatly improve the appearance and thickness of your hair, it will not completely reflect hair loss. The best results are usually observed in patients with thinning hair or who have symptoms of male or female baldness.

Platelet-rich plasma therapy does not cure baldness. For patients who are completely bald, treatment will not effectively grow a new hair. But for people with thin hair, it can enhance the production of new hair, strengthens hair follicles and makes the hair appear more intense.

If hair loss affects your confidence or quality of life, talk to your doctor about the causes of your fall and whether platelet-rich plasma therapy may be right for you.
